AMHERST, Mass. - Senior Nicol Traynor secured her second gold in as many days to wrap up a perfect weekend as Richmond Track & Field concluded its second and final day of competition at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Sunday in Amherst, Mass. Given her golden weekend, Traynor was named the meet's Most Outstanding Women's Performer for the first time in her career.
The Spider women finished seventh at this year's conference meet, while the men took 11th overall. Charlotte claimed both the men's and women's conference crowns.
After setting a new conference championship- and facility record in Saturday's 3,000 Meter Steeplechase, Traynor (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) returned to the track to take the top spot in the 1,500 Meters with a time of 4:25.19. The senior standout's gold, which came after she essentially led in a wire-to-wire victory in front of the pack, solidified her receiving the meet's top honor on Sunday. Sophomore Alli Mannon (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) crossed the line just outside the top-five in sixth with a time of 4:30.91 in the race.
Sophomore Ryan Lee (Wilmington, Del./Archmere Academy) also had a strong afternoon in Amherst, remaining at the front of the pack the entire way to cross the line in 14:35.41 and finish fourth in the 5,000 Meters.
In other distance action, newcomer Matthew Groff (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) clocked a personal-best time of 3:52.29 to take 10th in the 1,500 Meters. The freshman's finish improves his previously set Junior Nationals qualification.
Meaghan Hart (State College, Pa./State College) also put together a top-10 showing at the conference meet, taking ninth in the heptathlon and ultimately finishing just two points shy of an eight-place scoring position. The Spider sophomore set personal-bests in two of the seven events, running a 15.64 in the 100 Meter Hurdles and a 2:24.32 in the 800 Meters.
With the conclusion of this weekend's conference championship, next up for Richmond is the University of Virginia's Lanigan Last Chance meet on Saturday in Charlottesville.
