Late Goals Sink Spiders In Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Richmond battled the Tribe to a scoreless first half, but fell 3-0 Wednesday night in Williamsburg.
The late-goal flurry occurred in the game's last 10 minutes. The Tribe got on the board at the 80:28 mark when Erin Liberatore dribbled into the box and put the ball through on the right side of the net.
Five minutes later, Audrey Berry received a feed from the right side and scored to give the Tribe the 2-0 lead. Mallory Schaffer headed the ball in off a corner with five seconds remaining.
Richmond had many good looks at goal in the first frame and nearly scored by way of a header. Crystal Koczot was awarded a free kick and boomed the ball to a waiting Melissa Alvarez who headed the attempt off the crossbar in the game's 64th minute. LeClair followed up with a putback but the ball went wide left.
Senior goalkeeper Andrea Young was stellar in goal in the first frame, turning away 11 William & Mary shots. Young ended the game with seven saves.
LeClair led Richmond with three shots.
The Spiders host Villanova in their home opener Friday at 7 p.m. at Robins Stadium.
