Wann Scores Twice In Return As Spiders Blank ODU
09/15/2012 | Women's Soccer
NORFOLK, Va. -- Becca Wann returned to the Spiders in impressive fashion, accounting for the game's two scores in Richmond's 2-0 win over Old Dominion Friday night in Norfolk.
Wann missed the first month of the Spider season competing in the 2012 FIFA World Cup as a member of the U-20 Women's National Team in Japan (USA won gold last Saturday).
Wann scored her first goal of the season by way of her signature header off a corner kick in the game's 17th minute. Two minutes later, she struck again when she tapped in a deflection from a Kristen Lybert assist.
That was all the insurance the Spiders would need as they held ODU to an 11-2 shot margin in the first frame. The Lady Monarchs only recorded five shots in the second frame.
Richmond won the shot margin, 18-7, led by Lybert's six attempts. Wann led the pack with four shots on goal. Lybert and Crystal Koczot recorded assists.
The Spiders won corner kicks, 6-3, and Andrea Young recorded five saves in goal.
Richmond returns to action Saturday, Sept. 22 at Robins Stadium against American. First kick is slated for 7 p.m.
