Becca's Blog: Going For Gold
09/07/2012 | Women's Soccer
Hi Spider Fans!
Just in case you haven't heard... we are in the finals! Our semifinal game against Nigeria was a great one. We won 2-0 and we played great as a whole. It was an incredible feeling, and the last couple of days since the semifinal have been a great way to wind down the trip.
We got a chance to go see the "Times Square" of Tokyo, which was awesome. We went shopping in downtown Tokyo which was really cool. Everyone found this crepe stand and I ordered caramel, macadamia nut, cheesecake. It hit the spot!
Yesterday was probably my favorite day here so far. We drove to the U.S. Ambassador's house and he congratulated us. We then played soccer with some middle school and high school girls in his backyard. It was really cool to see how soccer can unite people from different places and we had a blast!
Naturally, I found a player who also enjoyed heading the ball, so we headed the ball back and forth for a good 10 minutes before we found our way back to the group. It was truly an incredible day!
Today we have been more focused on the game tomorrow since it was our last practice as a team. We play Germany tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. local time, and we are looking for some serious redemption after our group game against the Germans that we lost 3-0. Hopefully, the next time I write I will have a gold medal around my neck and will be headed back to the States a happy camper! Thank you so much for your support of not only me, but this unbelievable team during this incredible journey! We're going for GOLD!
