CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Freshman Darian Podmajersky scored in the 88th minute to lift the Spiders over JMU, 1-0, at the Virginia Nike Classic Friday.
The goal was the first of Podmajersky's career. As Kristen Lybert was falling to the ground deep in Duke territory, she passed the ball to an open Podmajersky who tapped in the ball for the game's only goal with less than two minutes remaining in regulation.
Richmond and Madison were deadlocked at nine shots apiece, with Ashley Williams and Crystal Koczot recording a team-high two shots, respectively. Senior goalkeeper Andrea Young had five a game-high five saves.
Richmond improved to 2-4 while the Dukes fell to 2-3. The Spiders conclude the Virginia Nike Classic Sunday at noon against George Mason.
