BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Richmond is picked to finish sixth and senior Cedrick Lindsay and sophomore Alonzo Nelson-Ododa earned Preseason All-Conference honors, announced Tuesday at the annual Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Media Day held at Barclays Center.
The Spiders, who return eight of their top-10 scorers off last year's 19-15 team, were picked sixth out of 13 schools in voting conducted among the conference's coaches and media.
Lindsay, the team's second-leading scorer last season, was named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference Third Team. Nelson-Ododa, who blocked 62 shots as a freshman, was named to the A-10 Preseason All-Defensive Team.
Lindsay averaged 12.0 points per game last season, but finished the season on a tear, averaging 16.5 points per game in Richmond's last 11 contests. He scored in double-figures in 11 of the last 15 games and had at least 19 points in seven of the last 11 games.
Nelson Ododa blocked 62 shots as a freshman, which ranked sixth on the Spiders' single-season list. His six rejections against Saint Louis tie for sixth on Richmond's single-game blocks list.
The Spiders return three players that averaged double-figures in 2012-13 and 70 percent of their scoring. Junior Kendall Anthony, the 2012 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, averaged 11.5 points per game and is third on Richmond's career three-point percentage list (.421).
Senior Derrick Williams averaged 11.4 points per game and has led the team in rebounding the past two seasons.
Just three of Richmond's losses in 2012-13 came to teams outside the top-100 in the RPI. Richmond had four top-100 RPI wins, including a victory over nationally ranked VCU. Of Richmond's 15 losses in 2012-13, 10 came by 10 points or less.
The Spiders open the 2013-14 season on Nov. 8 when they host Delaware in the New Robins Center. Richmond's home arena is undergoing a $17 million renovation that includes refurbished seats, hospitality areas, video boards and refinished court.
