NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Kristen Lybert and Hunter Rooney of the University of Richmond women's soccer team received Atlantic 10 All-Conference honors as announced by the league office Wednesday.
“Kristen is one of the toughest and most resilient players I've ever coached,” said Richmond women's soccer head coach Peter Albright. “She has overcome two major surgeries and returned to have a terrific senior season. A starter and full time midfielder, Kristen is also an elite student with a stratospheric GPA. She really deserves this honor.”
Lybert, a senior from Woodbridge, Va., was named to the 2013 A-10 All-Academic team. Lybert started 17 of 18 games while double majoring in Psychology and Sociology. The 11-member All-Academic team was selected, based on a vote of the women's soccer media relations directors at each of the 13 member institutions.
Rooney, a freshman from Littleton, Colo., was named to the 2013 A-10 All-Rookie team. Rooney started all 18 games this season for Richmond and was an anchor for the Spider defense. The All-Rookie team was selected by the leagues' 13 head coaches.
“Hunter played every minute of every game at center back and was our most consistent player,” added Albright. “Smart, tough and cool under pressure, she showed real leadership as a freshman.”
