Track and Field With Strong Day One Performances

KINGSTON, R.I.- The indoor track and field team wrapped up the first day of Atlantic 10 Championships with a first place finish in the women's distance medley relay and six Spiders will advance to the finals tomorrow in seven events.
In team standings, the Richmond women are tied with St. Louis in seventh place behind La Salle.
For the second consecutive year the Spider women topped the field in the distance medley relay. The relay comprised of senior Stephanie Paradis, freshmen Jade Gregory, junior Alyson McGonigle, and junior Jill Prentice won the race by an impressive nine seconds (11:42.22).
Earlier in the day McGonigle won her section and posted the top preliminary time in the 800 meter (2:14.35). She is set to compete in the finals tomorrow.
Fellow DMR member, Jade Gregory, earned an auto spot in the 500m after winning her section with a time of 1:15.67. Her performance was a personal best.
Taylor Clevinger and Lydia Morton each won their section and will advance to finals in the 1000m. Clevinger posted the third fastest overall time at 2:55.78. Morton ran the 1000 in her fastest time of the season (2:57.35). Teammate Clare Moretz competed hard in the 1000m finishing in 15th place with a time of 3:01.95.
Meghan Hart broke her own pentathlon school record of 3,196 by three points boasting an impressive performance that earned her ninth place overall.
Teammate Ann O'Toole earned 2884 points and a 15th place finish while Amanda Thatcher finished n 17th place with 2,718 points
Newcomer Tara Hanley put on a strong performance in the 5000m (17:44.02), finishing ninth overall.
Freshman Mary Allen sprinted her way to a spot in the finals in the 400m with a time of 57.69. Later in the night Allen secured a spot in the 200 meter final with a career best time of 24.88.
Kelsey McKenna and Amber Young posted season best performances in the 60-meter hurdles. McKenna went 9.30, while young earned a time of 9.35. The duo was outside the mark to advance to finals, despite their impressive runs.
In field events, Grace Gibson tied her own school record of 3.45 meter in the pole vault to finish fourth overall.
On the men's side freshmen Justin Keefe earned second place in section two of the 1000m, earning him an automatic spot in finals tomorrow. Keefe clocked in at 2:32.97. Teammate Kyle Ragan ran hard in the 1000m to finish fifth in section one with a time of 2:33.91.
Paul Myer was strong the 800-meter in under two minutes, posting a personal best run of 1:59.48.
In the 400 meter Richard Arnett shaved over a half second off his season best, clocking in at 52.45
Senior Chris York went 14:58.59 in the 5000m while fellow distance runner Ryan Lee ran a 15:09.47 in the event.
The Spiders hit the track tomorrow for the conclusion of the Atlantic 10 Championships. Tomorrow's lineup on the track for Richmond includes six finals events, the one-mile, 3000 meter, and both the 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 relays. In field events, the Spiders have athletes slated to compete in both the high jump and the long jump.
