Spiders In Second After First Round At Wexford

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The University of Richmond Spiders men's golf team sits in second place after the first round of the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate with a score of 292 (+4). Francis Marion is just one stroke ahead of the Spiders after 18 holes in the 18-team tournament.
Richmond was led by senior Daniel Walker on Monday morning, who carded an opening round score of 70 (-2) to sit in a tie for second place. Going back to the fall season, Monday's first round was the third-consecutive under-par score for the Earlysville, Va. native.
Sophomore Colin McDade got his spring season off to a solid start, tying for 12th after 18 holes with a score of 73 (+1). Freshman David Germann also played well, shooting a 74 (+2), tying him for 18th.
Rounding out the effort for the Spiders on a successful first day were senior Nick Austin and junior Jack Wilkes. Austin is tied for 24th with a total of 75 (+3), while Wilkes sits in a tie for 39th with a score of 77 (+5).
Frost delayed the start of the first round on Monday morning at the Wexford Golf Course. Each team has approximately five holes left in the second round. Teams will complete the second round on Tuesday morning before playing the third and final round.
