Richmond Men's Golf Ties For Third At Wexford

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The University of Richmond Spiders men's golf team carded rounds of 291-305 to tie for third place at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon, finishing the tournament with a total of 888 (+24). Georgia Southern won the 18-team event with a score of 879 (+15).
"It was a good start to the spring season," Richmond head coach Adam Decker said after the tournament. "We put ourselves into contention in this first event, which is great. We learn a little bit more with each opportunity to contend. It's a long season and we are happy with the early success."
Senior Nick Austin made a charge up the leaderboard on Tuesday for the Spiders, carding rounds of 72 (E) and 74 (+2) to tie for 11th place with a total of 221 (+5). The top-20 finish is the second of the season for Austin and the 15th in his Richmond career.
Tying for 11th along with Austin was sophomore Colin McDade, who earned his team-best fourth top-20 of the season. McDade carded rounds of 73-73-75 to end the 54-hole tournament with a score of 221 (+5).
Finishing just a stroke behind his teammates was freshman David Germann. The rookie notched the second top-20 of his young career, carding rounds of 74-73-75 to end the event with a total of 222 (+6).
Senior Daniel Walker tied for 26th place with a score of 224 (+8), while junior Jack Wilkes finished in a tie for 61st with a total of 237 (+21).
The Richmond Spiders men's golf team will next hit the course on March 10-12 when the team will play in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be held at the Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C.
