Painesville, OH - If I told you all about today, you wouldn't believe it.Our strategy today was to "go to work." There were three individual events and 1 relay contested tonight. We made it our goal to crowd the A final with Spiders. The A final is the top 8 and is valued more than places 9-16. There is a wider point difference between 8th and 9th, so "making top 8" carries more weight. Many teams are thrilled to have one or two in top eight. Today, we rocked prelims and put four in the A final in all THREE individual events. We occupied 50% of the A final spots for tonight. You can imagine the confidence in our step after the morning session. It was a total team effort - literally.
As we prepared for this exciting finals session, I found myself protesting a ruling that pushed Laura Jordan out of the B final while receiving news that another swimmer was "sick." Unfortunately, that news got worse. It's currently 11:45 p.m. and we have two in the hospital with flu-like symptoms. Last night, we faced mounting pressure from other teams and we responded with an impressive morning. Tonight, we face a spreading illness that has decided to harm our healthy bodies. What does tomorrow bring?
The 200 Free Relay closed the session tonight. We won it with Lauren, Natalya, Kelley, and Mali. To make sure we left our mark on today, Mali nailed her 50 split with a 22.3. This youngster has fire and talent, and she loves to race.
