Richmond Posts Strong Finals Showing on Day Three of Patriot Invitational

FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Richmond's swimming and diving team competed on the third day of the Patriot Invitational. The team earned points in every event Friday at the Patriot Invitational, placing 14 Spiders into finals to hold third in the team standings with 834.50 points.Â

Mia Gregory opened the night with an eighth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in 56.31, while Gabbie Primiano won the B final in 56.42.Â

The Spiders followed with one of their best showings of the meet in the 400 individual medley, where Lena Amare placed fifth in 4:27.60, Erin Budde finished seventh in 4:29.07 and Kaitlyn Bauer won the B final in 4:28.78. Natalie Stuart added a 20th-place finish in 4:35.16. Amare, Budde and Bauer all earned National Invitational Championship (NIC) B cuts.Â

In the 200 freestyle, Julia Krichev finished 17th in 1:53.90 and Carys Edgar took 19th in 1:54.78. Primiano added a seventh-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.76, followed by sophomore Trinity Schulze in 12th at 1:04.83 and Presley Baber in 20th at 1:06.00.

Richmond advanced four swimmers to finals in the 100 backstroke, led by Caroline Weldon, who finished sixth in 56.83. Hannah Wieczorek won the B final in 56.05, while Krichev placed 11th in 57.03 and Gregory added a 13th-place finish in 57.24.

In the 400 medley relay, the B relay of Amare, Schulze, Budde and Wieczorek finished sixth in 3:49.13 and the A relay of Weldon, Primiano, Gregory and Baber finished seventh in 3:49.14.

In diving, Addie Grainger finished fifth on the 1-meter board with 222.70 points, and Sally Harrington tied for sixth with 219.30.

Richmond remains third in the women's standings heading into Saturday's finals.
