03/01/2013 | Men's Basketball
DAYTON, Ohio - Richmond looks for its fourth-straight win and fifth-consecutive victory over Dayton when the Spiders play at UD Arena on Saturday at 4 p.m. in a game televised in Richmond on WTVR Ch. 6.
While Dayton holds an 11-8 advantage in the all-time series, the Spiders have won four-straight, five of the last seven and seven of the last 10 against Dayton.
THE LATEST
- The Spiders have won three-straight and can clinch an Atlantic 10 Tournament berth with a victory at Dayton on Saturday. Richmond has won just once at UD Arena, but that was in its last visit two years ago. The Spiders have won four-straight against Dayton, including the 2011 Atlantic 10 title game.
- There has been plenty of talk about the Atlantic 10 having 10 teams in the top-100 in the RPI, the second most of any league in the nation. The Spiders are one of those 10 teams with an RPI of 72 and that is after playing one of the most difficult conference stretches of any team in the nation. From Jan. 12 to Feb. 13 Richmond played 9-straight games against teams in the top-100 in the RPI. Richmond went through that gauntlet without leading rebounder and 3rd-leading scorer Derrick Williams for seven of those games. The Spiders are now in the fourth game of a final stretch to conference play which has them playing 5 of 6 against teams outside the top-100 in the RPI. When the Spiders finished the 9-game stretch against top-100 RPI teams, their conference strength of schedule ranked in the top-20 in the nation.
- Richmond junior forward Derrick Williams - the only Spider frontcourt player with any prior collegiate experience - had missed nine games before returning to action last Saturday on Feb. 9 Saint Louis.
- Richmond redshirt freshman Alonzo Nelson-Ododa is second in the A-10 in blocks per game in conference play at 2.6 and is 4th in the league overall at 1.9 per game. Nelson-Ododa is 9th on Richmond's single-season list for blocks with 53, needing 3 blocks to tie for 8th.
- Senior Darien Brothers is eighth in the Atlantic 10 in three-point percentage at 42.3 percent. He is fifth in the A-10 in three-pointers made per game (2.5). Brothers is 5th on the career list for three-pointers with 190. He is 25th on Richmond's all-time scoring list with 1,206 career points and is 10th in scoring in the A-10 (14.7) this year.
- Richmond leads the A-10 and is 17th in the nation in three-pointers per game (8.4) and is 2nd in the A-10 behind Dayton and 35th in the nation in three-point percentage (.377).
- The Spiders are 3rd in A-10 wins over the last 6 years (58), behind only Xavier and Temple.
