Spiders Begin Play At Pinehurst Intercollegiate

PINEHURST, N.C. - The University of Richmond Spiders men's golf team began play at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate on Sunday afternoon, carding a first round 296 (+12) to place seventh after the first round. Old Dominion leads the 16-team field with a score of 286 (+2).
Senior Nick Austin led the way for the Spiders on Sunday, ending the first round in a tie for 19th place with a score of 73 (+2). Austin will be looking for back-to-back top-20 finishes this week after tying for 11th last month at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate.
Classmate Daniel Walker and freshman John David Sanderson each carded rounds of 74 (+3), good for a tie for 28th after 18 holes. The 74 (+3) is a career-best for the rookie Sanderson.
Rounding out Richmond's effort on Sunday were sophomore Colin McDade and freshman David Germann. Both shot rounds of 75 (+4) to sit in a tie for 37th place.
The Richmond Spiders will continue play at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate on Monday when the team will play the second of three rounds.
