Track & Field Finishes Meet At Tribe Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Richmond Spider track and field team kicked off the outdoor season at the Tribe Invitational on Saturday.
"The meet served as a good start to our outdoor season," said head coach Steve Taylor. "Our team focuses on academic success and making sure that it works hand in hand with the athletic experience due to this we brought a smaller group due to midterms."
Melanie Overall and Mary Allen posted the Spider's top finishes of the weekend. Overall placed third in the javelin throw with a personal best mark of 37.92. Allen finished third in the 200m (24.79).
Jade Gregory finished sixth in the 200m with a time of 25.45.
In the long jump Janel Francis recorded a jump of 5.16m. Teammate Meghan Hart hit the 4.80m mark while Ann O'Toole record a jump of 4.68m.
Hart and O'Toole joined with Kelsey McKenna, Amber Young, and Amanda Thatcher in the 100m hurdles. McKenna finished in seventh place (16.22) and Young rounded out the top ten (16.55). Hart clocked in with a time of 16.77. Thatcher finished with a time of 17.73 and O'Toole closed out the event for Richmond with a time of 17.94.
In the 400m hurdles, Young finished fourth (1:05.56). Thatcher clocked in with a time of 1:09.20 to take 13th and O'Toole clocked in at 1:09.89 to earn 16th overall.
In the 400m, Alexis Williams placed third (1:00.99) in section three of the event.
On the men's side six Spiders competed in the 1500m. Kyle Ragan led the pack finishing 15th (4:04.52). Patrick Love clocked in at 4:07.00 to finish 18th while teammate Paul Myer finished right behind him with a time of 4:07.19. Tim Gruber recorded a time of 4:10.44, Matthew Barudin 4:11.94, and Matthew Mckenna 4:13.82.
Jose Edgington made his track debut in the 800m where he finished with a time of 2:06.95.
In the 400m, Case Taylor finished 17th (51.81) and Thomas Smail finished 28th( 53.46).
Scott Sommers represented the Spiders in the javelin throw. Sommers won flight 1 of 2 in the throw to finish 9th overall with a mark of 45.70m.
"Overall our athletes competed well and opened the season on a good level," said Steve Taylor. "It was a good tune-up for our home meet next weekend when we host the Fred Hardy Invitational."
The Spiders continue their outdoor season next weekend when they host the Fred Hardy Invitational on March 29-30.
