Allen Earns Second Straight A-10 Rookie of The Week Nod

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- Mary Allen earned A-10 Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week in a row as announced by the conference office on Monday.
“Mary had an awesome opportunity to race against Olympians Francena McCorory and Yvette Lewis this weekend in the 400m and 200m," said head coach Lori Taylor. : She proved once again and against some of the best female athletes we have in our sport today that she is willing and not afraid to compete against anyone".
Allen was named Rookie of the Week after earning personal best times in the 200m (24.68) and 400m (55.92) at the Fred Hardy Invitational. She took sixth in the 200m and fourth in the 400
The recognition is the first time since 2007 the outdoor track and field team has had the same person named Rookie of the Week twice in the same year.
Allen is one of two Spiders that have earned Rookie of the Week twice in one season this school year. The second is field hockey player Kerri McDonald.
Allen has earned four total Rookie of the Week nods this season, two in indoor track and two in outdoor track.
"The combination of Mary's fearlessness and confidence will allow her to compete against the best in the NCAA during her career at Richmond,” said Taylor.
