Spider Soccer Signs Seven For Class of 2017

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- Head Coach Peter Albright announced the signing of seven players who will join the Spider Soccer program in 2013.
“With every recruiting class, only time will tell,” said Albright. “However, I believe that this group of young women brings a great deal of high level playing experience and a record of competitive success that project well into our team. They reflect our deliberate effort to recruit young women of character, and they have a chance to make a real impact on our program and in the Atlantic-10 Conference.”
Richmond welcomes Meaghan Carrigan, a forward hailing from Greenville, S.C. Carrigan is a member of the Carolina Elite Soccer Academy ECNL. 
Albright says:
“Meaghan is a striker who has been one of the top scorers in the ECNL over that past two seasons. A High School All American, she brings an attacking mentality and a set of skills that will add a lot to our team.”
Next, the Spiders welcome Lindsay Egbers, a Midfielder from Clifton, Va. who played for the VSA Heat. 
Albright says:
“Lindsay plays CM on one of the best Club Teams in Virginia, winning State and Regional Championships in 2012. A tough and skillful athlete, she could compete for a spot in the first team immediately.”
Next is Kaleigh Kurtz, a defender from Greer, S.C. Kurtz played for the Carolina Elite Soccer Academy ECNL team. 
Albright says:
“Kaleigh is a super competitive kid who has become one of the best outside back prospects in the country. She is a great defender who is dangerous going forward. “
Richmond welcomes Devin O'Brien, a native of Richmond, Va. that will be a goalkeeper. O'Brien played for the Richmond Strikers ECNL team. 
Albright says:
“Devin is a great competitor and an excellent athlete. She will provide depth at our Goalkeeping position and should compete for playing time immediately.”
Next, Richmond welcomes Hunter Rooney, a defender from Littleton Colo. Rooney played for the Colorado Rush ECNL team. 
Albright says:
“Hunter is a composed and smart central defender who is also very tough in the tackle. She brings a high level playing experience at the Center Back position.”
Richmond welcomes Katie Sanders, a midfielder hailing from Dallas Texas. Sanders was a member of the Solar SC ECNL team. 
Albright says:
“Katie is a gritty and determined player with excellent skills. I expect her to positively influence the character of our team immediately.”
Another Richmond, Va. native joins the Spider roster in midfielder Ellie Sullivan. Sullivan also played for the Richmond Strikers ECNL. 
Albright says:
“Ellie has great feet and is an excellent passer. She has the potential to become a very effective college player.”
The Spiders will open the 2013 season at the JMU Tournament on August 23-25, facing JMU and Old Dominion.
