Spiders At VCU Tournament This Weekend

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- The Richmond women's soccer team plays at the VCU Tournament at Sports Backers Stadium this weekend. Richmond begins tournament play against Campbell Friday at 5 p.m. and concludes action Sunday at noon against Maine.
Richmond Lately
The Spiders look to snap a three-game losing skid coming into the VCU Tournament. Richmond is 1-4-1 overall, with two of its last three games coming against No. 6 Virginia and perennial power Princeton. Freshman goalkeeper Devin O'Brien leads Richmond with 29 saves on the season, including collecting eight at UVA in what was one of her best games of the season. Seniors Kristen Lybert, Erin Layne, Jensen Smith and Crystal Koczot have started every game this season. Richmond is playing in its second tournament of the season, having already played at the JMU Tournament the weekend of Aug. 23. Becca Wann and Hunter Rooney earned All-Tournament honors.
Scouting Campbell
The Fighting Camels come into the tournament on a four-game winning streak, after starting the season 0-3. Campbell is 4-1 on the year with its most recent win coming at home against Francis Marion. Freshman Kine Thorsvick was named the Big South Player of the Week after scoring three goals and dishing two assists in a 2-0 week for the Camels. Campbell is led by Payton Ormsby's four goals while goalie Alexis Connors has a team-high 14 saves this season.
Scouting Maine
The Black Bears come into weekend play with a 3-1-1 mark. Maine tied Wagner 1-1 in its most recent game. The Black Bears have five goals on the season, led by Camille V-Tremblay and Eve L'Abbe's two goals apiece. Goalkeeper Lauren Swant has started every game and has recorded 27 saves on the season. Maine will play host VCU on Friday before facing the Spiders Sunday.
