Men's Golf In 3rd At VCU Shootout

MANAKIN-SABOT, Va. – Senior Jack Wilkes is tied for fifth at 2-under-par 142 and the Richmond men's golf team is in third place after two rounds of the VCU Shootout played Monday at Hermitage Country Club.
The Spiders shot a 2-under 286 in the first round and a 6-over 294 in the afternoon to finish the day at 4-over 580.
Richmond is 11 shots behind second-place Iowa State and 13 strokes behind first-place Virginia Tech, which shot an 8-under 280 in the afternoon round. The third and final round will be played Tuesday morning.
"We came out in the morning and played extremely well," head coach Adam Decker said. "We didn't play as well in the afternoon, but we are still in third place and just have to go out there tomorrow and shoot some low numbers."
Wilkes shot a 3-under 68 in the morning round on the par-72, 6,955-yard course. He followed that with a 3-over 74 in the afternoon 18, to sit five shots off the lead in a tie for fifth.
Junior Danny Pizetoski, who won the season-opening Marshall Invitational, is tied for seventh at 1-under 143 (70-73). Junior Colin McDade is tied for 11th at even-par 144 (71-73).
Sophomore John David Sanderson is tied for 43rd at 151 (77-74) and sophomore David Germann is tied for 51st at 153 (77-76).
Three Spiders are playing as individuals. Freshman Keegan Hoff is tied for fifth at 2-under 142 (70-72), while freshman Jason Park is tied for 39th at 150 (74-76) and junior Austin Romeo is tied for 56th at 154 (78-76).
