Brennan Tabbed As A-10 Rookie Of The Week

Richmond freshman goalkeeper Katie Brennan (Fairfield, Connecticut) has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday. It is Brennan's first award of her career, the fourth time a UR rookie has won and the fifth overall weekly A-10 award for a Spider in eight weeks of the season.
Brennan posted her second-straight shutout as the Spiders won 1-0 at Davidson Saturday in the lone match for UR of the week. Since taking over in net for the Spiders, Brennan and the team are unbeaten (3-0-1), including an unbeaten league mark at 2-0-1. She has not allowed a goal in the net in the last 226:27 minutes of play. Her pair of A-10 shutouts is tied for the league lead, while her .846 save percentage is fourth-best in league games this season.
In four career games and 380 minutes, she has allowed just four goals and has made 20 saves. Her goals-against average is 0.95 and she has a save percentage of .833 for the year. Her two shutouts are the only two in the Richmond ledger this season.
Redshirt freshman Meaghan Carrigan (Greenville, South Carolina) and Olivia Aha (Norfolk, Massachusets) are the other Rookie of the Week winners in the A-10 from UR. Spider junior Ashley Riefner (Mechanicsville, Virginia) earned Co-Player of the Week in late September, as the Spiders landed a name in both the Player and Rookie of the Week columns for the first time since 2002 and the second time in program history.
The Spiders sit at 8-5-1 and are one of two remaining unbeaten squads in the league in second place alone at 2-0-1. UR is 18th in the nation in total points and sixth in assists per game nationally. Junior Shannon Colligan (Greenwich, Connecticut) is tied for fourth in the country with 11 assists. The Spiders will play their final road weekend of the season, starting Friday night across town at VCU at 7:30. Sunday, the Spiders will head up I-95 to George Washington for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
