Behind The Web - Cline Making His Own Name
12/01/2014 | Men's Basketball
WHEN T.J. Cline made post moves to beat defenders left and right down at Old Dominion, that school's most famous basketball alumnus smiled in the stands.
Nancy Lieberman, a Hall of Famer in women's basketball, watched a player with dominant basketball moves modeled after her own. After all, she is his mother.
Cline has spent his entire life revolving around the game of basketball. His mother, Lieberman, was a dominant player in the WNBA and has had a brilliant career as a coach, general manager and broadcaster. His father, Tim Cline, played for the famous Washington Generals, the team tasked with guarding the Harlem Globetrotters night after night.
But now, in his redshirt-sophomore season at the University of Richmond, T.J. is now making his own name.
Through five games, Cline is second on the team with 10.8 points per game in just 15.2 minutes per game. He has hit six three-pointers in 10 attempts, and has averaged five rebounds a game over the last three contests.
He has been nearly lights-out every time he shoots, hitting 66.7 percent of his shots to rank second in the A-10 and 10th in the country.
