03/02/2014 | Men's Golf
MIDLTOHIAN, Va. – Freshman Keegan Hoff shot a 1-under-par 71 to lead the Richmond men's golf team to a dual-match win over Penn State 509-519 Saturday at Independence Golf Club.
Nine players from each team played and the seven best scores were counted.
"It was a great day at Independence Golf Club,” said Richmond head coach Adam Decker, who was an All-American player at Penn State. “The guys played really well and we were able to come out on top. There was very consistent scoring and we are improving as the semester goes on. The guys are very motivated and are working hard in some less than ideal weather conditions so far this semester.“
Junior Austin Romeo and sophomore David Germann each carded even-par 72s for the Spiders.
Senior Jack Wilkes and sophomore John David Sanderson each shot 1-over 73s, while junior Danny Pizetoski and freshman Jason Park carded 74s. Junior Colin McDade shot a 76 and freshman Mark Reilly a 79.
“It was great to have the guys from Penn State come down for this event,” Decker said. “We hope that it can turn into a regular event."
The Spiders return to action March 9-11 at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate at Pinehurst, N.C.
