Richmond Basketball Preseason 15/16: Sophomore Preview
10/23/2015 | Men's Basketball
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Due to injuries in last year's freshman class, Joe Kirby is the lone sophomore on this year's Spider squad.
He entered the program as a walk-on from the Sagemont School in Pines, Fla., near Fort Lauderdale.
But after a year of late nights in the gym, hard work during practice and insatiable energy in the locker room, on the bench and in every team event, Kirby earned a scholarship this offseason.
"By awarding him a scholarship, not only did we give him something that will make a significant impact on his life," head coach Chris Mooney said. "It also showed the rest of the players what we expect the standard of Richmond Basketball to be. To do that as a sophomore is really impressive. It speaks volumes about his character, his work ethic and his daily approach to basketball."
