10/07/2015 | Women's Soccer
The Richmond Spiders women's soccer program looks to build on an unbeaten opening conference weekend with two road games in the Atlantic 10 Conference this weekend. Richmond will head to Saint Louis Thursday night for an 8 p.m. Eastern kickoff against the Billikens. The Spiders then head to the Northeast for a Sunday 2 p.m. game at Rhode Island. Live stats are available through RichmondSpiders.com and Saint Louis is providing free video through the A-10 Digital Network.
The Spiders got a home win over Duquense and a road tie at Massachusetts last weekend to being league play. Richmond is 3-6-1 overall, 1-0-1 and in a tie for fifth in the A-10.
Saint Louis started league play with a home loss to Dayton and followed with an overtime win at Rhode Island to start 1-1 in the league. The Billikens are 7-4 overall, 1-1 in the league, one point behind the Spiders and Minutewomen in the league standings.
The Spiders have revamped the lineup, with positive results. With players in new places, Richmond reeled off a pair of goals in both of the first two league games, with goals from three different players, including a goal in each game from sophomore Lexi Prillaman (Magnolia, Delaware). Prillaman leads the team with three goals and is tied for the team lead with seven points. Senior tri-captain Ashley Riefner (Mechanicsville, Virginia / Atlee HS) registered an assist in the opening league weekend to give her a team-best five assists and tie Prillaman with seven points. Riefner's 0.5 assists-per-game average are tied for fourth in the league and tied for 33rd in the country at the start of the week.
Sophomore Katie Brennan (Fairfield, Connecticut) has allowed 1.1 goals per game in her seven games played. She has allowed fewer than two goals in five of her appearances this season.
The Spiders did not face the Billikens last season, and have beaten Saint Louis in two of the last three meetings. Since joining the league in 2005, Richmond is 2-4-1 in the all-time series against Billikens.
Saint Louis is 5-2 in its last seven contests and 4-2 at home overall this season. SLU will head to George Mason for a road game on Sunday at 1 p.m. Kristen Clemens leads the team with five goals and 13 points, tied for sixth and seventh in the league, respectively. Livi Logan-Wood also has scored five goals for the Billikens, part of an offense that has scored 27 goals in 11 games this season.
Rhode Island lost 1-0 at Fordham Thursday before the home loss to Saint Louis over the weekend and sit at 3-7-1 and 0-2 in the league ledger.
The Rams have one win in their last seven games and were outscored 14-7 in that stretch. Ari Stanton leads the squad with four goals and nine points.
After not playing one another over the previous two seasons, the Spiders lost 3-1 at home to the Rams to end the 2014 regular season Richmond has captured three of the last five meetings in the all-time series, which stands at a level 6-6-1. That total includes a trio of A-10 Tournament matchups (2002, 2003, and 2004), with the Spiders taking two of the three.
Richmond returns home for a pair of home dates in conference the following week, hosting Saint Joseph's Thursday and George Washington Sunday at Robins Stadium.
