Allen's 27 Points Not Enough As JMU Wins, 87-75
11/14/2015 | Men's Basketball
Both team's offenses were clicking as Richmond shot 51.9 percent from the floor and JMU shot 50.8 percent. The Spiders had 38 points in the paint and 16 points off turnovers.
“JMU played really well tonight and they deserve credit,” head coach Chris Mooney said. “I thought that our offense put us in a position to win. Our defense didn't do a good enough job of disrupting them, and they got too many offensive rebounds.”
Allen scored 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting, along with a 7-of-7 performance from the free throw line. He added a team-high seven rebounds and three steals and two assists.
Junior ShawnDre' Jones scored 14 points, while T.J. Cline had 13 points and a team-high four assists.
JMU's offense was led by Shakir Brown who had tallied a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Ron Curry added 19 points with a game-high eight assists. Tom Vodanovich also scored 15 points and Jackson Kent had 11.
Richmond held a 36-35 lead at halftime as the teams exchanged the leads 15 times and had 13 ties.
The teams went on an offensive tear during a three-minute stretch of the second half as the score went from 54-54 to 64-64 with the Spiders scoring five straight paint buckets. Redshirt-freshman Khwan Fore made a splash with a big dunk, while Marshall Wood and Jesse Pistokache each scored their first Spider baskets from long range.
Richmond returns to the Robins Center on Sunday to face Stetson at 5 p.m.
