NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Richmond senior forward Terry Allen has been named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Allen led the Spiders to a win over No. 14 California on Friday in the second game of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational. He scored a career-high 34 points while tying his career high with 13 rebounds. It marked Allen's eighth double-double in the last 16 games, dating back to last season.
Against Cal, Allen also went 17-of-21 from the free throw line, hitting the most free throws in a game by any Spider dating back to 1969.
A native of Houston, Texas, Allen also scored a team-high 20 points against one of the nation's top defenses on Thursday in a close loss to West Virginia.
On the season, he is averaging 22.2 points per game and 8.0 rebounds to rank second and third in the A-10, respectively. Allen ranks in the top 15 of the conference in field goal percentage, free throw percentage, assists, steals, blocks and offensive rebounds.
Allen's scoring average currently ranks 17th in the country, while his 49 made free throws ranks seventh nationally.
Allen was named Preseason All-Atlantic 10 Third Team this October. This is his first Atlantic 10 Weekly Honor.
The Spiders return to action on Tuesday night at Florida with a 7 p.m. tip. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
