Robins Center "Was Just Like Cameron" - Miami HC Larranaga
03/25/2015 | Men's Basketball
"It was just like Cameron (Indoor Stadium). I would say they're a little more polite though. I thought the atmosphere was tremendous." - Miami coach Jim Larranaga
Richmond's run to the quarterfinals of the NIT with three games at home struck many for the intense home atmosphere at the Robins Center. The Spiders packed a full student section in Tuesday night's game against Miami and the energy showed.
"I wish we had a home crowd like that. That crowd was fantastic, and (the Spiders) feed off that crowd a lot.” - Miami guard Sheldon McClellan
"This crowd is raucous right now!" - ESPN's Mark Jones
Richmond's home-court advantage played out all through the season, but especially down the stretch in overtime wins over rival VCU and the PAC-12's Arizona State.
"The energy in here is incredible! I am literally shaking in my seat right now. I want to stay for another overtime!" - ESPN's Jon Crispin
In just the second full season after a complete renovation and makeover, the Robins Center boasts state-of-the-art HD lighting, four giant video screens and LED boards with a professional look that gives the arena a first-class feel.
"They've done a tremendous job here with the facility. It's really sharp-looking. The lighting and the big LED boards are really impressive. They had a nice crowd to support the team and deservedly so." - former Arizona State coach Herb Sendek
Earlier in the season, StadiumJourney.com rated the Robins Center at 4.1 out 5, tied for the highest score of any arena in the Atlantic 10.
"The fans do a great job of keeping this same energy up throughout the entire game. Unlike many sporting events today, where the majority of the fans are on their phones and are not really paying attention to the game, the entire crowd at Richmond basketball games is into the game from start to finish." - Stadium Journey review
After making such an impression on a national stage, Richmond fans will have high expectations next year to continue to provide one of the best home court advantages in college basketball after the Spiders won a program-record 16 home games in 2014-15.
"We have been so successful at home because of our fans and because of this great environment. We absolutely love playing in the Robins Center. They deserve so much credit from our players and our program for supporting us with so much energy this season." - Richmond head coach Chris Mooney
