Richmond Baseball Hosts Fordham At CNU This Weekend

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders baseball team will play host to Atlantic 10 rival Fordham at Captains Park on the campus of Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va. this weekend.
Due to weather in the Newport News area on Friday, the two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12 p.m. Sunday's third and final game is also slated to start at 12 p.m. Live stats for all three games can be found on RichmondSpiders.com.
Scouting the Spiders
The Richmond Spiders enter the weekend winners of four of their last five games, pushing their overall record to 10-8 on the season. In the A-10, Richmond is tied for second place with a mark of 2-1 after winning a three-game set with George Mason last weekend.
The Richmond offense has been one of the most powerful in the nation this year, ranking seventh in the country in home runs per game at 1.17. Reigning A-10 Player of the Weeek OF Michael Morman has been outstanding, leading the team with four homers and 22 RBI. SS Tyler Beckwith has a team-best .347 batting average with seven doubles.
The pitching staff has been solid as well, led by senior LHP Zak Sterling and senior RHP Ryan Cook. Sterling (3-1) leads the team with a 2.70 ERA and 31 strikeouts, while Cook (2-1) has registered an ERA of 3.21 with 22 strikeouts.
Scouting the Rams
The Fordham Rams come in to this weekend's series with the Spiders with an overall record of 8-14 on the season. The three-game set with Richmond will be the first A-10 series this year for the Rams, who finished last season with a record of 24-30 and a mark of 13-14 in league play.
Before the season, Fordham was picked to finish in ninth place in a preseason poll conducted of the A-10's coaches. This season, Fordham is hitting .267 as a team with three home runs and 95 RBI. On the mound, the pitching staff has registered an ERA of 4.83 with 166 strikeouts in 186.1 innings pitched.
