Spider Baseball Set For Pair Of Midweek Contests

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders baseball team is set for a pair of midweek contests on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Spiders will host in-state rival Norfolk State on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Pitt Field. On Wednesday, the team head east to play Old Dominion at 6 p.m. Live stats and live video links for both games can be found on RichmondSpiders.com.
Scouting the Spiders
The University of Richmond Spiders enter the week with an overall record of 20-13 on the season. Last weekend, Richmond dropped two-of-three games to Rhode Island, but remain tied for first place in the Atlantic 10 with a conference record of 9-3.
Offensively, the Spiders have been led by freshman OF Kyle Adams and OF Michael Morman. Adams leads the team with a .360 batting average, while Morman leads the squad with 11 doubles and 33 RBI. 3B Matt Dacey has hit a team-high nine home runs on the season.
On the mound, the pitching staff has been terrific for the Spiders, posting a team ERA of 3.80. RHP Peter Bayer will get the start against the Spartans on Tuesday, while Wednesday's starter against the Monarchs has yet to be announced.
Scouting the Spartans
The Norfolk State Spartans come in to Richmond as one of the hottest teams in the country, having won 12-straight games. The Spartans boast an overall record of 18-10 on the year, including a 15-3 mark in the MEAC.
Hitting has been the strength of the Spartans so far this season, as the team is hitting .290 on the year with 54 doubles, four home runs and 163 RBI. Norfolk State has been hard to control on the base paths as well, as the Spartans have stolen 46 bases this season. On the mound, NSU has posted a team ERA of 4.47 with 235 strikeouts in 225.1 innings pitched.
Scouting the Monarchs
The Old Dominion Monarchs enter the week having lost four of their last five contests, dropping their overall record on the season to 18-21. Last weekend, ODU dropped two-of-three games at home to Marshall.
Just like the Spartans, offense has been the strength of the Monarchs this season. Old Dominion is hitting .293 as a team with 79 doubles, 21 home runs and 201 RBI. On the mound, ODU has registered a team ERA of 4.55 with 261 strikeouts in 342.1 innings pitched.
On Deck
After the two midweek contests, the Richmond Spiders will head to Philadelphia this weekend for a three-game, Atlantic 10 series against La Salle that starts on Friday.
