INDIANAPOLIS - Spider student-athletes Mylon Blueford (football) and Jordan Chavez (cross country) recently attended the NCAA Career in Sports Forum in Indianapolis, Ind.
The two Spiders were among over 200 current student-athletes and postgraduate scholarship recipients who were invited to apply to attend the forum after a nomination by athletics administrators at their respective schools.
The four-day program provided college athletes with a broader scope of the career tracks available within the sports business, with the primary focus on college athletics. The forum provided student-athletes interactive experiences with successful individuals in the sports business and a peek into their day-to-day duties and responsibilities.
Blueford earned his undergraduate degree last month at May commencement. A four-year defensive back on the football team, he had the honor of introducing President Edward Ayers at UR's ceremony.
A native of Chesapeake, Va., Blueford recorded 22 tackles in 10 games played last year, including a season-high eight tackles against No. 7 New Hampshire.
Chavez just completed his junior year on the UR men's cross country team. Hailing from Southlake, Texas, Chavez placed sixth at the Spider alumni open this past fall. He was 32nd at the Atlantic 10 championships his sophomore season.
