Richmond's Morman Named VaSID State Player Of The Year

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond Spiders OF Michael Morman was named the Virginia College Sports Information Directors (VaSID) State Player of the Year on Friday, joining three other UR student-athletes on the University All-State baseball teams.
Morman was joined on the all-state first team by 3B Matt Dacey, while SP Ryan Cook and freshman DH Kyle Adams were named Second-Team All-State. Morman is the first Richmond player to earn state player of the year honors since Tim Stauffer in 2002.
Morman picks up the Player of the Year award after batting .389 for the season in 53 games, while slugging .611 and adding a .440 on-base percentage. The Second Team Louisville Slugger All-American and Atlantic 10 Player of the Year had 88 hits, of which 25 were doubles and seven were home runs. He added 51 runs and 56 RBIs to his totals while also stealing 10 bases.
Dacey picks up his third postseason honor after becoming just the third player ever to lead the A-10 in home runs in consecutive seasons. Dacey was also named First-Team All-East Region by ABCA/Rawlings and First-Team All-Atlantic 10.
After hitting 12 homers in 2014, Dacey clubbed 17 this past year, while batting .313 on the season. Dacey also led the A-10 in runs scored (56), while finishing second in total bases (129), fourth in RBI (52), third in walks (35) and second in slugging percentage (.652).
A Second-Team All-Atlantic 10 selection and First-Team All-East Region honoree as well, Cook went 8-2 on the year, tying for second place in the league in wins. Cook's 78 strikeouts were the fourth-most in the conference, while the Virginia Beach, Va. native also finished fourth in the A-10 in opponent batting average (.217), fourth in ERA (2.80) and 10th in innings pitched (86.2).
After not seeing action early in the season, Adams made the most of his early opportunities en route to consistent playing time and a terrific year, earning All-Atlantic 10 Rookie Team honors as well as being named VaSID Second-Team All-State. The White Plains, N.Y. product finished seventh in the league in batting average (.343) to go with eight doubles, three homers and 36 RBI.
