RICHMOND, Va. – Members of the Richmond men's basketball team returned to the ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation on Wednesday morning.
The visit marked a continuing relationship between the men's basketball Spiders and the ASK Foundation after the groups joined for clinics and games last year. First Capital Bank sponsors the partnership.
Richmond senior Deion Taylor, juniors T.J. Cline and Josh Jones and redshirt-freshmen Paul Friendshuh and Khwan Fore joined Director of Basketball Operations Ryan Butler at the ASK Foundation headquarters in Richmond.
The groups worked with the children on basic basketball skills including dribbling, shooting and passing. They played various games with dribbling races, passing circles and shooting relay races.
“We were there to have fun with the kids and really get involved with the community,” Friendshuh said. “It was great to feel like we made even a small impact for these kids who go through so much at a young age.”
After the basketball drills, the children were able to introduce themselves to the players and ask questions. One child said that meeting the Spiders last year was the highlight of his summer and he couldn't wait to meet the players again.
ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides financial, spiritual, social, and emotional support directly to over 1,000 children with cancer and other conditions and their families annually.
