09/27/2015 | Women's Golf
Following a strong showing to start the year in Bucknell, the Richmond Spiders women's golf program heads two-and-half-hours south to compete in the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday. The tournament, hosted by East Carolina, will be contested at the Brook Valley Country Club, a par-72, 6,091-yard course in Greenville, North Carolina.
Last week, the Spiders took a third-place finish at the Bucknell Invitational in their first action of the year, putting two players in the Top 10 in the event.
The Spiders will send three freshmen again this week to join senior Jessica Lydia (Jakarta, Indonesia) and sophomore Elsa Diaz (San Antonio, Texas), as newcomers Isabella Rusher (Salisbury, North Carolina), Annie Collom (Davidson, North Carolina) and Sophie DiPetrillo (Dover, Massachusetts) return to the lineup as they did last weekend.
Rusher finished seventh and Lydia took 10th at Bucknell to propel the team to the third-place finish.
The 56-hole tournament begins with a 36-hole day one, teeing off with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Richmond is paired with Gardner-Webb and Georgia Southern for the first day. They will start on holes 10, 11 and 12 to open the tournament. The 8:30 a.m. Tuesday shotgun start will be paired according to the results after the second round.
In addition to those teams and the Pirates, the 17-team field includes Appalachian State, Bucknell, Charleston Southern, Cincinnati, Elon, High Point, Longwood, Marshall, Old Dominion, Radford, Western Kentucky, William & Mary and Winthrop.
Fans can follow along with live results at Golfstat.com over the course of both days.
Richmond will head to Wisconsin in mid-October following this tournament.
