AUSTIN, Texas - Former Richmond men's basketball standout Kevin Anderson was selected in the fifth round of the NBA Development League Draft on Sunday. He was picked by the Austin Spurs.
Anderson graduated from Richmond in 2011 and has played all around the world. After a stint in 2012 with the NBA Summer League and Cleveland Cavaliers training camp, Anderson played in Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Turkey, Luxembourg and back in Greece this past year.
He was drafted by the Erie BayHawks in the 2014 NBADL Draft, but was later waived.
Anderson remains one of the most decorated players in Richmond basketball history. He scored 2,165 career points, good for second all-time. He was the 2010 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and 2008 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year.
A three-time All-Conference selection, Anderson was named MVP of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Tournament as he led the Spiders to a conference title. Just days later, he would lead Richmond to an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance after hitting a game-winning fadeaway in the final minute to upset Vanderbilt in the NCAA Second Round.
Along with his point outputs, Anderson still ranks fourth all-time in assists (410) and third all-time in steals (217).
Anderson's number 14 is one of the Spiders' retired numbers hanging in the rafters of the Robins Center.
Anderson's former teammate at Richmond, Justin Harper, starred in the NBADL last season with the Los Angeles D-Fenders and was called up for two 10-day contracts with the Detroit Pistons midseason.
