Scouting James Madison
JMU hosts Richmond at home after five straight road games as the Dukes are in search of their second win of the season.
JMU has shot at a 42.6 percent clip from the field but 17.1 turnovers per game has hurt the Dukes' cause. Jackson Kent averages 12.9 points per game with 5.0 rebounds, while Joey McLean has 100 points in 10 games.
Series vs. James Madison
Although JMU has won the last two games in the series, UR holds the overall advantage 32-22. The Spiders are 10-14 all-time at JMU, with UR's last win at JMU coming on Jan. 8, 2012. The Spiders are 6-0 all-time in games that went to OT in the series.
Buck's Breakout
While De'Monte Buckingham has already earned a reputation for his defensive prowess with steals, blocks, rebounds and charges taken, his offense was on display against Texas Tech.
Buckingham scored a career-high 16 points, including 13 in the first half, helped by a career-best three three-pointers.
Fore's Aggressive Start
Richmond has struggled at times in the opening stretches of games, but reversed that trend against UMBC. UR got out to a 19-9 lead, in part because of the aggressiveness of Khwan Fore. He scored 10 first-half points and finished with 15 points, a career-high nine rebounds and tied his career high with four steals.
Fore then followed that up with 19 points and six rebounds against Texas Tech. He has averaged 14.3 points in the last four contests.
He also now ranks 31st in the country in steals (2.2).
Defensive Pressure
After an uncharacteristic season of poor defense last year, the Spiders have employed a mix of man and the traditional matchup zone that UR used to employ exclusively. The Spiders have also used Khwan Fore in full-court pressure situations, where Fore averaged 2.2 steals per game (third in A-10).
The Spiders defense currently ranks third in opponent field goal percentage (40.9) and second in three-point defense (31.3). The Spiders are also fifth with 7.1 steals per game.
Scoring Streak
T.J. Cline has now reached double figures in 23 straight games and 30 of his last 31 dating back to last season. He has 64 career double-figure scoring games, and tallied his second career double-double vs. Boston College.
Last year, Terry Allen reached double figures in 31 straight games and Kevin Anderson holds the record at 36 during the Mooney era.
Jones-Cline Connection
T.J. Cline and ShawnDre' Jones are one of the Atlantic 10's best duos, especially in the pick and roll and pick and pop. They've combined for over 40 points in three of UR's 10 games. They are one of just two duos in the Atlantic 10 to each rank in the top 10 of the conference in scoring.
P-R-A Machine
T.J. Cline is currently averaging 17.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game.
He is one of just two players in the country (N.C. Central's Patrick Cole being the other) to average at least 18-7-5 in points, rebounds and assists in a game.
Cline nearly tallied a triple-double against Maryland, scoring 18 points with nine rebounds and nine assists. No player has recorded a triple-double in Richmond spider history.
Assist To...
The Spiders have always run an offense with constant motion and crisp passes that lead to shots in rhythm. Richmond is at its best when every player on the court is setting up someone else for a shot.
This year, the Spiders rank fifth in the league in assists (14.9) and second in assist-turnover ratio (1.2).
Climbing The Record Books
ShawnDre' Jones and T.J. Cline continue to climb Richmond's all-time record book. Jones now ranks 29th all-time with 1,201 career points.
Cline is right behind him at 1,176 points in 31st. Adding his points from his freshman year at Niagara, Cline has totaled 1,438 career points.
Jones also moved into seventh place all-time with 181 career three-pointers.
Cline ranks in the top 10 all-time in FG percentage, while Jones ranks in the top 10 in three-point field goal percentage.
