12/08/2016 | Men's Basketball
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond (4-4) looks to get back on track on Saturday when the Spiders host UMBC (7-1) at 7:30 p.m. in the Robins Center.
Saturday's game time was moved from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to accomodate Spider fans watching the football team in the FCS Playoffs.
T.J. Cline has three straight 20-point outbursts and now has recorded 21 consecutive double-digit scoring games.
Cline is one of two players in the country to match his averages for points (18.9), rebounds (6.8) and assists (5.3). He has the most assists for any player 6-9 or taller in the country.
Both Cline and ShawnDre' Jones have reached double figures in all but one game this season. They are just one of two duos in the A-10 to both rank in the top 10 in scoring.
Saturday's game will air on CSN+ and online through the Atlantic 10 Digital Network. Robert Fish and Lane Casadonte will be on the call.

Scouting UMBC
The Retrievers come to the Robins Center on a three-game winning streak and a 7-1 record which includes a victory over Duquesne. UMBC's only loss came to Navy.
The Retrievers lead the America East conference in scoring (85.3 ppg), field goal shooting (50.1), assists (15.4) and blocks (2.9). Jairus Lyles has averaged 21.3 ppg with 5.0 rebounds per contest to lead UMBC.
Head coach Ryan Odom is in his first season after a year as head coach at Lenoir-Rhyne last year. He was the interim head coach at Charlotte in 2015, for his only other Division I head coaching experience. Odom is the son of former Wake and South Carolina head coach Dave Odom.
Series vs. UMBC
Saturday marks just the second game all-time against UMBC. The Retrievers defeated Richmond in a nail-biter back in 2007 at the Robins Center, 70-68.
Defensive Pressure
After an uncharacteristic season of poor defense last year, the Spiders have employed a mix of man and the traditional matchup zone that UR used to employ exclusively. The Spiders have also used Khwan Fore in full-court pressure situations.
The Spiders defense currently ranks fifth in the league in scoring (68.0) and second in opponent field goal percentage (38.8). The Spiders are also fifth with 7.5 steals per game.
Scoring Streak
T.J. Cline has now reached double figures in 21 straight games and 28 of his last 29 dating back to last season. He has 62 career double-figure scoring games, and tallied his second career double-double vs. Boston College.
Last year, Terry Allen reached double figures in 31 straight games and Kevin Anderson holds the record at 36 during the Mooney era.
Cline has also scored at least 20 points in three straight games. The last time a player did it in four consecutive games was Kendall Anthony in 2014. The school record is six straight 20-point games, set by Johnny Newman twice in 1986.
Cline's Big Week
T.J. Cline had quite a week over the Thanksgiving Holiday. He averaged 19.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists in a near triple-double against Maryland and a double-double against Boston College. He earned Barclays Center Classic All-Tournament honors and then was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week. On Tuesday, Cline's first person account in The Players' Tribune was published to national acclaim.
Jones-Cline Connection
T.J. Cline and ShawnDre' Jones are one of the Atlantic 10's best duos, especially in the pick and roll and pick and pop. They've combined for over 40 points in three of UR's eight games. They are one of just two duos in the Atlantic 10 to each rank in the top 10 of the conference in scoring.
P-R-A Machine
T.J. Cline is currently averaging 18.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game.
He is one of just two players in the country (N.C. Central's Patrick Cole being the other) to average at least 18-7-5 in points, rebounds and assists in a game.
Cline nearly tallied a triple-double against Maryland, scoring 18 points with nine rebounds and nine assists. No player has recorded a triple-double in Richmond spider history.
Assist To...
The Spiders have always run an offense with constant motion and crisp passes that lead to shots in rhythm. Richmond is at its best when every player on the court is setting up someone else for a shot.
This year, the Spiders rank fifth in the league in assists (14.9) and second in assist-turnover ratio (1.2). UR has assisted on 119 of 205 field goals for a ratio of .580, with 10 different players tallying at least one assist so far.
