12/09/2016 | Women's Basketball
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond women's basketball team (4-4) will face one of the toughest tests on its schedule on Saturday afternoon when Penn (3-4) visits the Robins Center.
Penn will visit the Robins Center for the first time since 1995 having beaten the Richmond Spiders just once in seven tries. Penn went 24-5 last season, earning a share of the Ivy League title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament as a 10-seed before going down to eventual Final Four team Washington. The Quakers return all five starters from last season's team.

LAST TIME OUT
Richmond suffered a setback on Sunday afternoon at the hands of Cleveland State (3-4), 69-65, snapping the team's four-game winning streak. Micaela Parson and Jaide Hinds-Clarke were the only Spiders to reach double-figures, scoring 16 and 12 respectively but it was Kylie Murphree that stole the show this weekend. She matched her career-high with eight points for second day in-a row and handed out a career-best nine assists to go with four on Saturday. Murphree also added four steals for good measure on Sunday.
KYLIE MURPHREE
Speaking of Kylie Murphree, she currently ranks fourth in assist/turnover ratio (36/18, 2.0), fifth in the A-10 in assists per game (4.5) and sixth in steals per game (2.1). All of those numbers are currently career-best marks. In addition, the junior has increased her scoring output to 3.9 points per game. She has matched her career-high with eight points twice this season already and did so just five times in the previous two seasons combined.
FIRE UP THE BENCH
Richmond scored 39 points off the bench in both games down in Boca Raton, 36 opposite Liberty and 30 against Cleveland State. That's four-straight games with 30 or more bench points. The Spiders failed to score 30 points off the bench even once last season. Those staggering figures have come in large part from Lauren Tolson, Jaide Hinds-Clarke, Ragan Wiseman and Karleigh Wike. Tolson moved to the bench after the season-opener after making 51-consecutive starts and has provided a spark, averaging 9.4 points off the pine since.
COMEBACK KIDS
The Spiders have led a game after the first quarter just twice this season and have faced double-digit deficits in nearly every game. The positive that can be drawn from that however is that this team has displayed the ability overcome those deficits. FAU built a lead of 10 in the first quarter and had an eight-point lead with 3:33 to play in the third quarter before Richmond commenced on a 36-18 run to close the game. It was the first double-digit deficit that the Spiders had overcome since an OT win at Saint Louis on Feb. 7, 2015, a game in which the Billikens held a 20-point advantage.
Deficits Erased this Season:
Columbia: Trailed by 13, Cut to 3 in 4th quarter
Virginia: Trailed by 17, Tied the game in 4th quarter
Florida A&M: Trailed by 8, Won by 13
Florida Atlantic: Trailed by 10, Won by 10
