Looney Named Baseball America's A-10 Freshman of the Year

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- With the 2016 season quickly approaching, the Richmond Spiders added another preseason accolade to their resume. Layne Looney was tabbed as the Atlantic 10 Freshman of the Year by Baseball America, in their annual conference preview predictions.
Looney, a native of Dallas, posted a 12-0 record including four no-hitters with an 0.53 ERA and 119 strikeouts as a junior at Highland Park. The right-hander was one of six players from Texas to be named to the 2014 CBS Online-MaxPreps Underclass All-American team. He also picked up Underclass All-American honors from Perfect Game.
The Spiders open their 2016 slate at the Buffalo Wild Wings Battle for the Beach Tournament in Wilmington, N.C. with St. John's, Western Carolina, and host UNCW. UR will open with St. John's on February 19 with the first pitch slated for noon.
