LAST TIME OUT
Richmond gave George Washington (20-4, 10-1 A-10) a run for much of Sunday's tilt at the Robins Center but the Colonials proved to be too much down the stretch and Richmond went down, 62-47. The Spiders put two players in double figures; Micaela Parson who put up 11 points and Janelle Hubbard (10) who hit the double-digit mark for the 20th time this season and 63rd time in her career.
Bria Powell built on her big game at Saint Louis with eight points and Kylie Murphree matched her career high with eight after putting up six in the first quarter alone. Karleigh Wike pitched in six points and Alicia Hudalla grabbed a career-high seven rebounds off the bench. Both Murphree and Parson handed out three assists.
The Spiders attempted a season-low four free throws and GW had almost as many offensive rebounds (24) as the Spiders had total rebounds (30). Richmond did manage to shoot 42.3 percent from the floor, besting the Colonials 37.1 mark. It was the highest shooting mark for the Spiders since going 51.1 percent at La Salle.
ABOUT DAVIDSON
The Wildcats have lost four of their last five games with the lone victory coming opposite George Mason on Feb. 3. Davidson went down to Duquense in its most recent matchup. Three players average double figures, Mackenzie Latt (14.6), Dakota Dukes (14.0) and Hannah Early (11.1), all of which average at least 28.7 minutes per game.
FREE THROWS MAKE THE DIFFERENCE
Richmond is 8-4 this season when it makes more free throws than its opponent, 0-10 when it does not and 1-0 when it makes the same amount. The Spiders have struggled from the line this season but have shown that if they can get to the line and convert more than their opponent, the success rate jumps up.
RVA WELCOMES A-10 TOURNAMENT
Last season was the second of a three-year partnership with the Atlantic 10 Conference and the City of Richmond to host the A-10 Women's Basketball Tournament at the Richmond Coliseum. The tournament had been played the previous two years at Hagan Arena on the campus of Saint Joseph's. Last year, Richmond defeated UMass in the first round before falling to Fordham.
DREAM BIG DAY
Today at the Robins Center the Richmond Spiders are hosting Dream Big Day for area elementary and middle school students. During the event the children will be able to explore various stations around the Robins Center to gain awareness for healthy habits and to learn about the opportunities available to them as they grow.
