Spiders Set To Take On Fourth-Ranked Duke On ESPN3
03/07/2016 | Men's Lacrosse
DURHAM, N.C. – It may be Spring Break for the rest of the University of Richmond, but the men's lacrosse team is on anything but a break.
After picking up an 11-6 road win at VMI to open the SoCon slate, the Spiders head south to Durham for a showdown with fourth-ranked Duke on ESPN3 on Monday evening.
The game will mark the fourth time in Richmond's three-year history that the Spiders have faced a top-10 opponent. In those games, Richmond has battled the opposition closely, falling by an average of just four goals.
Head Coach Dan Chemotti will be facing his alma mater for the first time since his graduation in 2002. As a Blue Devil, Chemotti helped guide Duke to two ACC Championships, four straight NCAA Tournament appearances and three trips to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
Offensively, the Spiders are led by juniors Dan Ginestro and Mitch Goldberg, who each have 10 goals on the year and each found the back of the net three times in Friday's victory at VMI.
Defensively, Richmond has locked down its opponents to just 6.80 goals per game this year, a number that ranks fifth-best in the country entering Monday's showdown with Duke.
Game time at Duke's Koskinen Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
