Scouting Fordham
Fordham is led by Atlantic 10 Freshman of the Year Joseph Chartouny and All-A-10 Third Teamer Ryan Rhoomes. The Rams play a chaotic defensive system that forces 15.8 turnovers a game, good for second in the conference. Fordham limits teams on the boards, giving up just 32.4 rebounds.
Rhoomes has 14.6 points per game and 9.4 rebounds per contest. Mandell Thomas has averaged 12.6 ppg, while Chartouny has 11.0 ppg including 78.4 percent from the free throw line.
Series vs. Fordham
Richmond leads the all-time series 16-7 and has won 11 games in a row in the series. Earlier this year, UR overcame a 10-point second-half deficit to beat Fordham at home. The Spiders also came back from down double digits in the first half to win in the Bronx this season. UR's last neutral site game against the Rams was also Richmond's last loss to Fordham in the 2007 A-10 Tournament in Atlantic City.
Atlantic 10 Tournament Dossier
The Spiders are making their 14th appearance in the Atlantic 10 Tournament since 2002. UR is 12-12 all-time, but just 1-3 since the tournament moved to Barclays.
Richmond won the tournament in 2011 as a three seed. This is UR's first time as a nine seed in the tournament. The Spiders are 4-4 in second round games. UR is 1-2 against Fordham and 1-2 against Dayton all-time in A-10 tournament play.
Spiders In The Postseason
Richmond has been to nine NCAA Tournaments since 1984, and UR has made six postseason appearances in Chris Mooney's 11-year tenure. Richmond's last NCAA trip was in 2011 when the Spiders upset Vanderbilt as a 12 seed and advanced to the Sweet 16.
Last year, Richmond made its eighth trip to the NIT and advanced to the quarterfinals with home wins over St. Francis (NY) and Arizona State.
All-Conference Honorees
Richmond's frontcourt duo of T.J. Cline and Terry Allen earned All-Atlantic 10 Third Team honors, the conference announced Tuesday. Redshirt-freshman Khwan Fore was also named to the All-Rookie Team.
A native of Plano, Texas, Cline has come on strong in the new year, averaging 19.9 points per game in conference play which ranks third in the league. On the season, Cline has shot a team-best 56.3 percent from the field with a team-best 11 20-point outbursts. His team-leading 4.0 assists per game ranks 10th in the conference and is the second-most assists for any player 6-9 or taller in the country.
Cline has led the team in scoring in eight of the last 11 games while also posting an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.9 (10th in Atlantic 10) on the season. Cline's 36 points against Dayton marked the highest output for any Spider in the last three seasons.
If the season ended today, Cline would rank ninth in school history for field goal percentage in a season and he's just three assists away from 10th all-time in one season.
Allen was a preseason All-Atlantic 10 pick and won the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week award after his career-high 34 points led the Spiders past No. 14 California in Las Vegas. Allen finished the regular season ranked 10th in the league in scoring (17.8 ppg), seventh in rebounding (7.8 rpg) and seventh in steals (1.5 spg).
A native of Houston, Texas, Allen reached double figures in all but two games this season, and posted 10 20-point efforts. He will finish his career ranked at least fifth all-time in rebounds and 12th in points in Richmond history.
Allen's 31-game double-digit scoring streak came to an end against UMass where he recorded only nine points. Allen's streak was the fourth longest active streak in the nation. That 31-game streak was the second longest under head coach Chris Mooney, with Kevin Anderson's 36-game streak still intact.
Fore earned a nod for the All-Rookie team after a standout freshman campaign. He came off the bench to average 6.4 points per game in 19.7 minutes. He reached double figures on eight occasions and had career moments in UR's wins at George Washington and against Fordham. At GW, he scored 18 points in a double overtime game that included a SportsCenter Top 10 dunk to seal the win. Against Fordham, Fore made two backcourt steals in the final minute to cap a 10-point comeback win.
All three players earned their first All-Atlantic 10 honors. Richmond has now earned 27 All-Conference honorees in head coach Chris Mooney's 11-year tenure.
