UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond women's soccer Head Coach Peter Albright released the team's 2016 schedule on Tuesday afternoon, which includes seven homes games and six others in the state of Virginia.
The 2016 schedule is highlighted by four contests against 2015 NCAA participants, including Virginia and West Virginia who finished the season ranked in the top four nationally.
“This schedule challenges our team to prepare well and perform against some of the best teams in the country,” head coach Peter Albright said. “I believe that the mentality and focus of our program is one of our strengths; this schedule gives us some great tests in preparation for what we believe will be a great run in A-10 Conference play.”
The Spiders open their season with a scrimmage against ACC foe NC State at River Road Field on August 12, before jumping into the regular season on the road at Longwood (August 19) and Old Dominion (August 21).
Richmond will open its home slate on August 26 when it hosts in-state rival James Madison before traveling to downtown Richmond to take on Holy Cross (September 2) and Sacred Heart (September 4) in the VCU Invitational Tournament.
The Spiders will then be on the road for three-straight games, traveling to Virginia (September 8), Elon (September 11) and American (September 20) before returning home to Robins Stadium to face West Virginia on September 23.
Atlantic 10 action will begin at 2015 A-10 Tournament Champion and NCAA participant Duquesne on September 29, before the Spiders host Massachusetts on October 2 in their conference home-opener.
Saint Louis (October 6) and Rhode Island (October 9) will both make the trip to Richmond before the Spiders head back on the road to face Saint Joseph's on October 13 and George Washington on October 16.
Richmond will host La Salle on October 20 before traveling to the Bronx to face Fordham on October 23. St. Bonaventure will then make the trip south to Richmond on October 27.
The Spiders are scheduled to wrap up the regular season at crosstown rival VCU on October 30, in a rematch of last year's game which saw Richmond upset the Rams on senior day.
This year's Atlantic 10 Championship will be held in Kingston, R.I, from November 3 through the 7.
