Newcomer Spotlight: Carlie Blessing

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's soccer team will look to have a strong defensive presence in the 2016 season with the addition of four newcomers on the back line.
One of those newcomers is goalkeeper Carlie Blessing, who will join fellow keepers Katie Brennan and Jessica Stanfill on the Spider roster.
A native of Moorestown, New Jersey, Blessing was a four-year varsity starter in goal for Moorestown High. She earned multiple honors while in goal, including All-State South recognition in 2014, Burlington County Scholastic League All-Star honors in 2013 and Burlington County Scholastic League second team honors in 2012.
As a senior co-captain, Blessing led Moorestown to the Liberty Division title in 2015. The keeper also helped her team to the South Jersey Group 3 title and the NJ State Group 3 semifinals in 2014 and the South Jersey Group 3 title, NJ State Group 3 finals and a No. 10 state ranking in 2012.
Blessing competed in goal for Penn Fusian ECNL at the club level, which finished 15th in the ECNL in 2015. In 2013, the team won the ECNL playoffs and finished fifth in the finals. She also served as an NJ ODP goalkeeper in 2012 and 2013. Blessing went undefeated in penalty kick games in club play.
Off the field, Blessing competed in the JV swim team in 2014 and 2015. She also traveled to Haiti for a church mission trip in January, and is a member of Young Life and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes while serving as a senior leader in both organizations. A member of her church choir since kindergarten, Blessing has traveled to Europe twice to perform with the group.
Academically, she was a member of the Moorestown High School Honor and Service Society. Blessing also served as a Harvard Model Congress Representative and a school youth representative at Rotary meetings.
