Wells Fargo Athlete Of The Week: Lexi Prillaman
08/23/2016 | Women's Soccer
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond women's soccer player Lexi Prillaman has been selected as the first Wells Fargo Athlete of the Week for 2016-17. The junior striker had a standout opening weekend for the Spiders, leading the team with five points on two goals and an assist in the first two games.
A native of Magnolia, Delaware, the team tri-captain gave the Spiders a 1-0 lead in an eventual 3-0 win over Longwood on Friday night, drilling a free kick into the top right of the goal. She then assisted on the second goal of the game, deflecting the ball off of a Lancer defender to senior Lindsay Egbers, who snuck the ball past the Longwood keeper. On Sunday, Prillaman scored the Spiders' lone goal, stealing the ball from an Old Dominion defender and beating the goalkeeper in the first half.
What tactics did you use on attack that helped you score this weekend?
LP: My goals this weekend were a result of continuous pressure on their back line, involving everyone on the field. The free kick was rewarded to us after trying to penetrate their back line, resulting in a goal and a lead heading into the second half.
How do you think the team can build from the first weekend of play?
LP: Coming out of our first weekend 1-1, our team should take something away from both games. We can grow on the success that we've had and learn from the defeat on Sunday. Regardless, we had a solid first weekend, and I'm excited to use this momentum heading into Friday's home opener.
Why did you choose to come to Richmond?
LP: Richmond gave me the opportunity to pursue my dreams of becoming a colligate athlete, while still focusing on my studies. It's also by far the most beautiful campus I've ever step foot on.
What has been your favorite moment as a Spider?
LP: My favorite moment as a Spider would have to be our final game last season. We played VCU at home and had recently been told that we would not be making the tournament. We were determined to not only end the season on a high note, but more importantly beat our biggest rival. We were able to defeat them 3-2, for the last game on our home turf – a truly unforgettable moment in my life.
Why did you choose #10?
LP: 10 has been my number for quite some time, and it seemed fitting to continue my career with it.
Do you have any pregame rituals?
LP: My pregame rituals include a shower prior to our locker-room meetings, and typically listening to a lit playlist (tunies or @kenziecox).
What song gets you pumped up to play?
LP: I'm a big fan of remixes, or songs that you wouldn't typically hear on the radio.
What's your favorite vacation spot?
LP: Bermuda is my favorite vacation spot. My family and I have vacationed there twice now, and we absolutely love it.
What do you like to do with your free time?
LP: I enjoy taking little excursions with my friends, setting up hammocks and reading/napping, or watching the sunset/rise. I'm a big fan of nature-y things.
What's your favorite TV show?
LP: Grey's Anatomy!!!!!!!
What's your favorite sport outside of soccer?
LP: I really enjoyed playing field hockey throughout high school. Some of my fondest memories include the times I spent with my field hockey team.
What do you want to do when you graduate?
LP: After graduating, if the opportunity of continuing my soccer career presents itself, it would be a dream come true. However, if my career doesn't extend past Richmond, I intend on staying involved in the world of sports and working on the business side of things for a change. More than anything, I'd like to be happy and experience as much as I can with the people I love.
