UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond men's and women's golf teams will travel to Ireland this fall for an intercollegiate competition in Waterville, Ireland. The Ireland trip highlights another tremendous schedule for both teams.
The Spider squads will travel abroad under the direction of the reigning Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year in men's coach Adam Decker and reigning Patriot League Coach of the Year in women's coach Ali Wright.
"We are really excited to be traveling out of the country for competition this season," Decker said. "This trip will give our teams an opportunity to see another country and undertake a very unique golf experience."
The teams will travel to Waterville, Ireland during Richmond's fall break, competing on Oct. 9 and 10. They will face off against Rutgers, Davidson and University College Cork on the Waterville Golf Links. The course dates back to 1889.
"Traveling abroad is a crucial part of the college learning experience," Wright said. "We are so fortunate to give our student-athletes the chance to see another culture and play golf at such an historic course."
The trip highlights a fall schedule for the women that begins at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va. on Sept. 11-12. They then travel to Penn State on Sept. 24-25 before heading to Ireland. The women's fall schedule concludes at the Cardinal Cup on Oct. 23-25 at the University of Louisville Golf Club.
The men's fall schedule begins with the VCU Shootout at the Country Club of Virginia, adjacent to the University of Richmond campus. The rival Spiders and Rams tee off on Sept. 19-20. After returning from Ireland, the Spiders go south to Atlanta for the AutoTrader Collegiate, hosted by Georgia State, on Oct. 17-18 at Berkeley Hills Country Club. The men's fall competition concludes in Mobile, Ala., on Oct. 29-30 with the David Miller Collegiate, hosted by South Alabama.
The Spider women's team is coming off a Patriot League Championship and the program's first-ever appearance in an NCAA Regional. Four of the team's top five golfers return in junior Elsa Diaz and sophomores Isabella Rusher, Sophie DiPetrillo and Annie Collom.
The Richmond men's team placed second at the Atlantic 10 Championship for the third consecutive season. Junior Matthew Lowe earned an at-large invite to an NCAA Regional and returns after a record-setting season. Senior Keegan Hoff and sophomore Ben Wanichek return as championship tournament scorers.
