08/30/2016 | Women's Soccer
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – For the second straight week, junior soccer player Lexi Prillaman has been selected as the Wells Fargo Athlete of the Week.
Prillaman led the Spiders to a 4-2 win over in-state rival James Madison on Friday night in the team's home opener, scoring four goals and tying a 19-year-old program record for goals in a single game. The record was previously set by Brooke Sands on September 23,1997 against Howard.
The attacker was also the named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week and to the Top Drawer Soccer team of the Week for her efforts. She currently leads the A-10 in points (13), points per game (4.33), goals (6) and goals per game (2.0). Her goals per game average also leads all NCAA Division I athletes, while her goals scored ranks second.
What did you eat before the game on Friday, and can you eat that before every game?
LP: Prior to the game Friday I had a venti iced coffee, a bowl of Wheaties & a head of lettuce. Nothing beats gnawing on a fresh head of lettuce on game day #yum
What does it mean to you to tie a 19-year-old record?
LP: To be able to say I tied the school record is unbelievable. Truthfully, I wouldn't have gotten any goals Friday night without all the amazing people out there with me. This includes all 30 girls on the team-- whether they were on the field or not. I give full credit to all of my teammates and coaches. All I can say is hard work really does pay off!
How did the crowd at the game influence the energy on the field?
LP: To have a crowd like we did for our home opener Friday night was amazing. Having all those people to support us was definitely a contributing factor to our success on the field. I think I speak on behalf of our coaches and team when I say, thank you!!!! Please continue to come out and be rowdy!
This was the first time the team played on campus this season. How does that change the dynamic for you?
LP: I'd be lying if I said our team isn't always looking to play our best and come out with a win. That being said, playing our best is especially important in a home opener. It's a team's first opportunity to really show everyone what it's been working so hard for. It shows our peers that running to class with wet hair after just finishing a morning lift is actually worth it. In other words, a home opener is really a way to set the tone for the rest of the year, and I'm just happy we could come out with a win!!
What's your favorite book?
LP: My favorite book would have to be The Great Gatsby.
What's your favorite class so far this semester?
LP: My favorite class this semester is Marketing. My professor is super upbeat, and so far, I'm really enjoying the material!
What's a song that best showcases your personality?
LP: Something Good Can Work (RAC Mix) by Two Door Cinema Club. I listened to this song a bunch this summer when I went running. The words and beat really get me going (s/o to Katie Brennan for showing me this song).
Who are the three people, dead or alive, that you want to eat a meal with?
LP: Taylor Swift, Meghan Klingenberg and Blake Lively – all three very amazing women I'd love to chat with over a Sunday brunch.
