WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Richmond women's golf picked up right where it left off at the end of the 2016 spring season - playing championship-level golf.
The Spiders sit in first place after two rounds of the William & Mary Invitational from the elite Kingsmill River Course. UR shot +23 as a team to lead second-place Seton Hall by four strokes. The Spiders and Pirates are familiar foes after being paired in last year's NCAA Regional in Stanford. The 11-team field also includes Patriot League rival Boston University (+41).
Sophomore Isabella Rusher shot rounds of 74 and 70 to sit at even par after two rounds. Rusher is currently in first place overall with her tremendous performance. Her two-under par round of 70 ties for fifth overall in the Richmond record book. It marks her third under-par round in her young Spider career.
Junior Elsa Diaz is in second place overall with rounds of 73 and 74 to shoot +3.
Sophomore Sophie DiPetrillo shot rounds of 78 and 74 (+8), while classmate Annie Collom shot 79 and 77 (+12).
Newcomer Marie Donnici rounded out Richmond's starting five with rounds of 83 and 79 (+18).
Senior Maria Pons Cano competed as an individual and shot rounds of 81 and 74 (+11) to sit in 23rd place overall. Kayleigh Reed did not play due to injury.
Richmond will look to win hold on to its lead in the final round of the tournament tomorrow. The Spiders tee off at 8:30 a.m.
