Carney, Hogue Lead Spiders at Pre-National Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In the final tune-up before the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship, the Spiders competed against the nation's best in the Pre-National Invitational at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park.
Junior Colleen Carney and senior Johnny Hogue led Richmond among a deep and elite field of runners.
Carney paced the Spider women finishing 136th overall in the Red 6K race. She clocked a 21:31.6 on the course. Seniors Amanda Corbosiero (21:36.3) and Kylie Regan (21:39.6) finished close behind Carney.
Senior Shelby Cain led the next pack of Richmond runners as she turned in a time of 21:58.0 followed by sophomore Claire Brown (21:58.2). Junior Ave Grosenheider (22:01.6) and junior Eryn Mills (22:11.9) rounded out the scoring for the Spiders.
As a team, the women finished 31st out 43 teams in the Red 6K race.
Junior Jordan Angers led the way for the Spiders in the Black 6K race. She turned in a time of 22:36.5 to finish in the top-100. Freshman Caroline Robelen crossed the line at 23:18.5 with sophomore Erika Echternach finishing at 23:58.3.
On the men's side, Hogue ran a 25:03.5 on the Black 8K course to finish 38th overall. Sophomore Will Alpaugh crossed the line in 138th with a time of 27:01.8.
The Spiders will return to action on Saturday, October 28 for the Atlantic 10 Championship. The race will be held in Leesburg, Va. at the Oatlands Plantation.
