
Men's Golf Places Eighth at Firestone Invitational

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Richmond men's golf team began October with the Firestone Invitational this week at the prestigious Firestone C.C. North Course, competed against some of the top teams in the nation, including a few from the Atlantic 10, and showed well by finishing eighth overall.
Matthew Lowe showed well, earning his first Top 10 of the 2017-18 season by firing an Even-par 216. He began the week with a -1, 71 in the first round on Monday then followed that up with a +1, 73 in round two before closing on Tuesday with an even-par 72.
Junior Ben Wanichek carded a -1, 71 in the final round to close out a +6, 222 effort that earned him a tie for 24th overall. Sophomore Andrew Sciarretta (+8, 224) finished in a tie for 33rd and freshman Andrew McInerney (+13, 229) tied for 60th to round out the qualified scoring.
As a team the Spiders (299, 297, 295 - 891) topped eight other schools in the stacked field including A-10 foes George Mason (895) and Davidson (897) as well as in-state rival William & Mary (896). Illinois State took home the team title.
Richmond is back on the course in two weeks at the Autotrader Intercollegiate, which will be played at Berkeley Hills C.C. in Duluth, Ga. Â
