Spider Baseball Hosts Successful Alumni Weekend

As the 2018 Spider Baseball season quickly approaches, the University of Richmond Spider Club and the Spider baseball program made a large step toward the renovation of Pitt Field, hosting an Alumni Weekend on October 20 and 21.
Â
The gathering saw the attendance of 140 alumni, parents and friends in support of Spider Baseball.
Â
The renovation is a major part of Elevate – The Campaign for Spider Athletics, which is designed to enhance the experience of Spider student-athletes, fans and alumni. The Elevate Campaign will look to surround the new playing field, a turf surface installed in 2015, with a Collegiate Gothic stadium that reflects the architecture of the University of Richmond.
Â
"The entire weekend was an incredible celebration of Spider Baseball," said Assistant Director of Athletics for Development, Jasmonn Coleman. "I want to thank all the alums who returned to campus, especially Sean Casey for being our guest speaker on Friday evening and highlighting a night that raised over $400,000 towards the renovation of Pitt Field."
Â
The weekend began on Friday morning with an Alumni and Parent Golf Outing hosted at the Richmond Country Club.
Â
The outing was followed by a return to campus for the main event of the weekend, a Pitt Field Renovation dinner held at the Queally Center for Admissions and Career Services. Following a cocktail hour in the O'Maley Courtyard, Richmond Director of Broadcast & News Content Bob Black introduced alumnus, MLB All-Star and MLB Network Analyst Sean Casey, who was the keynote speaker for the event.
Â
The 2018 Richmond baseball team was the center of attention on Saturday, putting on an intersquad scrimmage in the morning before an alumni batting practice and tailgate in the afternoon to wrap up a successful weekend for the program.
Â
"We still have a lot of work ahead to reach our goal, but my hope is that we look back on this weekend as a signature moment in our effort to enhance the facilities for our baseball program," Coleman said.
